Version 3.x of CAM used to contain an option that would reduce the sample rate and smooth the temperature values. For those of us with CPUs that can run quite hot and spike the temperature for a second or two when hitting high loads. Without this option, the brief spikes in CPU temp result in the fans spinning up and then almost immediately back down, creating a revving sound that is very annoying. With the v3 style smoothing option, this was able to keep the system cooled optimally while avoiding this fan noise.
