Fix the compatibility issues with ASUS

After building my new computer (I already had the Z73 from a previous build) the NZXT Z73 LCD will only display a white screen with liquid temperature. I don't have the option to adjust the LCD in CAM anymore either, only the LED options. In my past build it worked fine. My previous build was an Aorus MOBO with an Intel chip. Here is my new build:

MOBO - Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

CPU - Ryzen 5950x

Cooler - NZXT Kraken Z73

I saw that there is evidently an internal USB hub. Does it actually work? Besides, why not just include the proper hardware/software in the first place? Or make a downloadable software upgrade for compatibility. For the price of an NZXT cooler, a clunky USB hub seems more like a band aid due to laziness from the manufacturer.

Something needs to be done that’s for sure. Either I’ve received 2 coolers that are faulty back to back or I’m currently facing the same issues. I’ve reset my pc. Tried the internal hub.
Did fresh installs of windows and I can’t get the display to work. My first coolers screen would turn on but flicker and eventually turn off. The 2nd replacement’s screen doesn’t even turn on at all.
And of course support replies to 2-3 emails and then I don’t hear back until the next day…

I think it's Asus Armoury Crate causing your problems. Even if you haven't installed the software in Windows yourself I bet it's in there somewhere if you look for it.

It's because Asus high-end motherboards have Armoury Crate baked in the uefi bios for some time now.

When you enter the bios, go to the 'Tool' tab, click the 'Asus Armory Crate' option. In there you see the 'Download & Install ARMOURY CRATE app'. Change the setting to 'Disabled'. Then F10, Save changes and reset.

Then you go into Windows and start uninstalling everything Armoury Crate related and to prevent any broken settings or other bugs, maybe CAM too since CAM beta also taps into the Asus Aura api.

The reason CAM doesn't show any settings/controls for your Kraken's display is the same as why you can't monitor your Kraken in tools like HWiNFO64 as long as CAM is running. The software is programmed to block other tools while it's running. When you close CAM and open HWiNFO64 you can monitor fan speed, pump speed and water temperature. If you then open CAM again, the Kraken readout in HWiNFO64 freezes and goes grey.

In most cases it's not bug but actually a good thing when controller software blocks other programs/applications from tapping into it's functionality to prevent all kinds of weirdness when 2 or more programs start fighting over a device's control which on a good day causes buggy behaviour but in a worst case scenario can lead to blue screens or even a corrupted Windows installation. And like every fight, usually the strongest wins and in your case CAM clearly wasn't the strongest of the 2.

I'm not 100% sure Armoury Crate is the culprit because I don't know what else you have installed on your pc. But since the option in bios that downloads and installs that software is enabled by default and the fact that Jeffery Hughes in the comments said he has the exact same problem with the exact same motherboard makes me think I can't be that far off.

Same mobo btw and no issues with CAM, unlike armory crate which caused a shitload of driver conflicts.

Uninstall everything that makes up the piece of shit that is Armory Crate and every single issue your pc has will instantaneously evaporate. CAM is god's gift compared to that shit.

Same issue, same mobo. I've tried everything including the NZXT USB HUB. Doesn't work. I tried using a 3rd party micro USB to USB cable and plugging it into my case and external mobo USB ports, same error.

It gives the USB device has malfunctioned and then gives an error that it can't retrieve the USB information. There has to be an update, firmware, or driver we can install. Help us NZXT!
